Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Tinus Luc Koblar is taking in his second development camp fresh off of an impressive performance at the 2026 IIHF World Championships.
The Maple Leafs’ second round pick, who was born in Slovenia and raised in Norway, was relatively unknown when the team selected him in 64th overall in the 2025 NHL Draft. He just wrapped up a solid rookie season with Leksands IF of the Swedish Hockey League, but he firmly put his name on the map with his play at the World Championships. Norway, not typically known as a medalling hockey country, won Bronze after defeating Canada in overtime of the third place game, with Koblar recording six goals and nine points in ten games throughout the tournament.
With Maple Leafs development camp ongoing while the FIFA World Cup is taking place in Toronto among other host cities, Koblar discussed his home country’s performance prior to their Round of 16 match against Brazil, which they would ultimately go on to win 2-1 to advance to the quarter finals. It reminded him of his recent World Championship run with Norway.
“Hopefully, I think they’re really high,” Koblar said of the upcoming match. “If they play as they have been doing this tournament I think they can beat them…it’s been amazing. I kind of can draw some comparisons to us at the World Championships. They are doing the same journey, I think they can go far.”
Koblar was then jokingly asked if he would refer to himself as the Erling Haaland of Norway’s hockey team, to which he laughed off but acknowledged that he had a long way to go to get to that level.
“He is an amazing player, but he’s already at the top,” Koblar said. “I’m just starting my career.”
Development camp has wrapped up, and Koblar will be rooting for Norway as offseason training begins, with his country set to face the winner of England and Mexico in the quarters.
