The Toronto Maple Leafs announced two start time changes for upcoming home contests to accommodate the Toronto Blue Jays’ World Series games.
This Saturday’s game against the Buffalo Sabres has been pushed back two hours to 5 PM, while next Tuesday’s game against the Calgary Flames has been moved to 6 pm. Additionally, Friday’s game against the Sabres has been moved from 7:30 PM to 7 PM.
Just as they did for the previous round, fans attending the games at Scotiabank Arena are invited to stay after the end of the match to watch the Blue Jays play on the screen at Scotiabank Arena. Saturday and Tuesday will be Games 2 and 4 of the World Series, both set for 8 pm ET. With the Jays holding home field advantage, Game 2 will take place at the Rogers Centre, while Game 4 will be in Los Angeles.
“Toronto sports fans are undeniably some of the most passionate fans in the world, and we are proud to have the city’s teams come together and give these fans an opportunity to experience a significant moment in our city’s and nation’s history,” MLSE president and CEO Keith Pelley said in a release. “Each of these game time changes are quite complicated and represent the cooperation of many stakeholders including the respective leagues, coaches and players of the Leafs, Raptors and opposing teams and broadcasters. We are grateful to them all for their assistance as we work to make this a very special moment for Toronto fans as we come together to support the Blue Jays.”
This year’s World Series may be the most hotly anticipated event in the city since the Toronto Raptors took home the NBA title in 2019. It’s been 32 years since the Blue Jays were last in the World Series, picking up their first American League Pennant since 1993 this season, defeating the Seattle Mariners in a tight seven-game series. They’re now set to face a hot Los Angeles Dodgers team, lead by Shohei Ohtani.
The connection between the Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays has been tight so far this season through the team’s historic run to the Finals. Ahead of Game 7 of the American League Championship Series, Blue Jays superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. wore an Auston Matthews jersey for his walk-in. Matthews returned the favour on Tuesday, sporting Guerrero’s jersey after the team clinched a place in the Finals. Blue Jays mania has swept through the Maple Leafs locker room, as the team looks to take inspiration from this winning Toronto franchise.
Game 1 of the World Series kicks off on Friday at 8 pm from the Rogers Centre.
