It&#8217;s unknown whether Jarnkrok sustained the injury in practice or during Sunday night&#8217;s preseason opener against the Senators, but he was absent during Tuesday&#8217;s practice while the majority of the players who suited up on Sunday participated in a non-game day group skate. He skated on a line with William Nylander up the middle and Max Domi on the opposite wing in the team&#8217;s 6-5 overtime loss to Ottawa.
Jarnkrok, 32, is about to enter the third year of a four-year contract he signed with the Maple Leafs in July 2022, worth $2.1 million annually. He set a career-high in goals with his first 20-goal season and tied his career-high in assists with 19, good for 39 points in 73 games back in 2022-23, but battled through some injuries last season and was limited to ten goals and 21 points in 52 games. Consistency has been the name of Jarnkrok&#8217;s game in his first two seasons with the club, giving them a reliable defensive forward with a perhaps under-appreciated shot that can bring you 35-40 points in a healthy season. He&#8217;s shown the ability to play all over the lineup as well, whether that means skating with Auston Matthews, David Kampf, or somewhere in between.
Matthew Knies, Easton Cowan, Nikita Grebenkin, and Jacob Quillan are all playing in tonight&#8217;s game against the Senators after having suited up on Sunday as well. The rest of Sunday&#8217;s group participated in a non-game day skate.
