During an eventful second day at the 2025 NHL Draft, the Toronto Maple Leafs selected forward Harry Nansi from the Owen Sound Attack with the No. 153 pick.
Nansi recorded seven goals and 23 points in 67 games with Owen Sound during the 2024-25 season.
Here’s what Daily Faceoff and The Leafs Nation’s prospect expert Steven Ellis wrote about Nansi:
Harry Nansi is another big body – and a guy some people viewed as a potential second or third-rounder. Decent pick for Toronto. Never stops moving. Good energy guy. At this point, work the selection. We’ll see if his skating catches up, but I like him as a playmaker
Nansi was selected in the fourth round of the OHL Priority Selection in 2023, after starring for the Nepean Raiders Under-18 AAA program.
Toronto previously selected Tinus Luc Kolbar with the No. 64 pick, then followed up by selecting Tyler Hopkins with the No. 86 overall pick. William Belle was selected at No. 137, before Nansi was taken by the Maple Leafs. It’s clear that Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving and director of scouting Mark Leach are emphasizing finding forward depth with real upside throughout the second day of the draft.
Nansi and Kolbar are among the youngest players in the draft, and this could be a recurring theme for the rest of the Maple Leafs’ picks.
“Personally, you take the best available player talent-wise at that pick. When you get down to No. 64 and that area, these players take a little longer to develop. It’s not a straight line from point A to B. Most of them are 3-5 years away,” Leach said during his media availability Thursday.
Nansi will be afforded every chance to continue to develop with Owen Sound in the OHL next season, where his playmaking stands out as an asset, and now it’s imperative for him to improve his point production in his draft-plus one year.
