The Toronto Maple Leafs‘ three-game win streak has bumped them up to within five points of the Eastern Conference’s final playoff spot, currently held by their Atlantic Division rival Boston Bruins. While they find themselves closer to the playoff hunt, as of Wednesday morning, moneypuck.com listed the Maple Leafs’ chances of making the playoffs at 10%.
Sportsnet Insider Elliotte Friedman made an appearance on The Fan Hockey Show on Wednesday and discussed where the Leafs stand as the trade deadline approaches and if the recent win streak could change general manager Brad Treliving’s course of action.
I don’t think so, I think they’ll continue to look around. They went out there last week, and they told teams we’re considering some things that we didn’t think we’d have to consider. – Friedman
The Maple Leafs have had many players’ names come up in the trade deadline rumours, headlined by pending unrestricted free agent Bobby McMann, who has posted 19 goals and 13 assists through 56 games played.
I think they’re asking for a first-rounder for McMann, and that’s what I would do too if I was the Leafs, that’s the price I’d set. I really like McMann as a player. In this NHL, size matters, and he’s a big, strong, fast guy. – Friedman
Friedman also mentions Anthony Stolarz as another name that has been heard in rumours, as the Maple Leafs currently have Joseph Woll under contract until the completion of the 2027-28 season, and Dennis Hildeby waiting for a shot to showcase himself as a full-time NHL goalie. Signed to a four-year extension in September, Stolarz has appeared in 16 games, posting a 7-7-1 record, 3.55 goals-against average and 0.882 save percentage.
Stolarz, to me, is an interesting one. This is a guy who just extended a few months ago. I’m curious about the fact that they are already looking to trade him. If they’re worried about him physically, that’s one thing, but a year ago him and Woll were the second-best goalies in the league. – Friedman
With 25 games left to play, including six left prior to the NHL’s trade deadline, many eyes will be on the Maple Leafs to see what path they take for the remainder of the 2025-26 campaign.
