The Leafs solved their problem of too many goaltenders on the Marlies this morning by trading Michael Hutchinson to Colorado for Calle Rosen.
Rosen, of course, was part of the trade that sent Nazem Kadri to the Colorado for Tyson Barrie and Alex Kerfoot. He had a solid track record on the Marlies with Sheldon Keefe, and that could be a big reason to bring him back now.
Rosen’s played 8 games for the Avalanche this year picking up 2 points, and has played 35 AHL games this year, picking up 15 points. Rosen is under contract next year for $750k, according to PuckPedia.com, and that’s a bonus for the Leafs, who could use some depth.
As for Hutchinson, a change of scenery and getting the hell out of the Toronto market when he’s become a bit of a punching bag for being a less than good goaltender is something he probably welcomes.
It’s hard not to like this deal for the Leafs, but it absolutely doesn’t impact much. Rosen is likely to start with the Marlies, but we could see him later this year with the Leafs. He’s not an impact player, but he’s good depth and he’s not Michael Hutchinson.
