United States President Joe Biden visits Canada: “I like your (hockey) teams, except the Leafs!”

Joe Biden isn’t a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The 46th President of the United States landed in Ottawa on Thursday and his visit marks the first non-summit overnight visit by a U.S. president in nearly two decades.
Following a meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday morning, Biden gave a speech at Parliament Hill to an audience of MPs, senators, ambassadors, Indigenous leaders, and other notables including former prime ministers Jean Chrétien and Joe Clark.
The speech featured a jab at the Leafs, which was met by a combination of playful cheers and boos from the crowd…
“I have to say, I like your teams, except for the Leafs,” Biden said “I’ll tell you why. They beat the Flyers back in January, that’s why. If I didn’t say that – I married a Philly girl – I’d be sleeping alone tonight, fellas.”
The game Biden is referencing specifically came on January 8, in which the Leafs handily beat the Flyers in Philadelphia by a score of 6-2. The Leafs have already swept their three-game season series with the Flyers, as they beat them in Toronto by a score of 5-2 in November and December by a score of 4-3.
