Why can’t Leafs fans have nice things?
In case you missed it, Anthony Stolarz was forced to leave Thursday night’s game against Anaheim with a lower body injury, and now, we wait to find out the extent of the injury.
And that’s where the conversation started on the Friday edition of Leafs Morning Take as TSN’s Frankie Corrado filled in as co-host for Jay Rosehill.
All in all, Joseph Woll deserves a lot of credit for coming in and solidifying the victory. That said, you can’t help but worry about Stolarz’s status, especially when taking into account how important he’s been for this team thus far this season.
At any rate, after that, we dove into the 3-2 win over Anaheim. Aside from the Stolarz story, indisputably, Max Pacioretty stole the spotlight. The veteran forward notched two goals and an assist, and in general, the Ducks had no answer for the Pacioretty-Tavares-Nylander trio all night long. They were tremendous. Without question, the Leafs are getting tremendous value from the Pacioretty contract. He’s been solid.
Meantime, William Nylander scored his 18th of the season. He’s been a beast, and honestly, I would argue that he’s been better this year than he was in his contract year. Additionally, we discussed Jake McCabe’s return to the lineup as well as Toronto’s once again struggling power play. What else is new, right?
Then, we gave our quick thoughts on this weekend’s back-to-back as Toronto will visit Detroit on Saturday night before hosting Buffalo on Sunday at 5 PM (weird start time). Frankie thinks it’s a mandatory four-points. Both teams are garbage. I don’t disagree.
Lastly, we played another edition of Take It Or Leaf It. We debated whether William Nylander will hit the 50 goal plateau for the first time in his career, if Max Domi will score 10 goals this season, and if Jake McCabe’s Toronto’s most important blueliner.
Rosey will be back on Tuesday. David Pagnotta will draw in as co-host for the Monday edition of Leafs Morning Take (11 AM ET). Join us as we dissect another busy weekend for the Maple Leafs plus look ahead to their three-game week.
