Accountability won’t be an issue under Craig Berube: Leafs Morning Take

T-minus 15 days from the season opener in Montreal!
Thankfully, we don’t have to wait as long for the debut episode of Amazon Prime’s new docuseries on October 4th.
That’s where the conversation started on the latest edition of Leafs Morning Take. William Nylander and Boston’s David Pastrnak will be featured in the premiere. Naturally, we spoke about Nylander being caught by the live mic in last year’ playoffs telling Mitch Marner to stop crying. We both agreed that it wasn’t a big deal. Believe it or not, this type of stuff – as Rosey spoke to – happens a lot on a daily basis in the NHL.
Presented by Greta Bar YYZ, we discussed some of the major storylines coming out of Sunday night’s 6-5 OT loss in the preseason opener. First and foremost, we talked some Craig Berube. As expected, the new bench boss is wasting no time setting a tone. He’s a no-nonsense guy, and we’re seeing that right off the bat. Berube was very direct with his assessment of game No. 1.
After that, we broke down Max Pacioretty’s hot start. Yes, it’s one game, but the former Canadiens captain can stay healthy, the Leafs may have really found something here. A week into camp, he looks refreshed, motivated, and hungry to make a different. It’s so weird seeing him in the blue and white, I won’t lie.
Then, we talked about two of the kids. In short order, Nikita Grebenkin has done a few things to get on Berube’s radar —at the very least. He’s a throwback player, and this organization’s looking for more guys like that. Also, Easton Cowan looked good in his first outing. Consistency will be big for him. It’s too early to tell if either guy has a legitimate shot to crack the opening night roster. Their progression will be fun to monitor over the next few weeks!
Leafs Morning Take will return with another episode on Thursday at 11 AM ET. Talk then!
