Auston Matthews notching 70 goals would be a bigger feat than Connor McDavid tallying 100 assists: Leafs Morning Take

After salvaging a split of their Philadelphia/Washington back-to-back earlier this week, the Leafs are getting set for another back-to-back this weekend.
And this one will be a bit tougher.
On Saturday, Edmonton will be in town, and then, on Sunday night, Sheldon Keefe and company will visit the Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena.
Anthony Stewart filled in for Jay Rosehill on the Friday edition of Leafs Morning Take. We kicked off the show by discussing the Tom Wilson situation a bit more. The power forward, who’s already been suspended five times during his 11 season NHL career, was offered an in-person hearing for his slash to the face of Noah Gregor on Wednesday night. At this point, it feels like the league’s about to make an example of the 29-year-old Toronto native once again.
Thanks to Tim Hortons, we got into a spirited Hart Trophy debate. At this point, it’s probably down to Nathan MacKinnon, Nikita Kucherov, Connor McDavid, and Auston Matthews. Speaking of the last two, who are set to collide on Hockey Night in Canada, both players have had tremendous seasons. Matthews is on pace for 68 goals and McDavid’s on pace for 106 assists. Incredible stuff. What’s the better feat to accomplish, 70 goals or 100 assists? Also, we broke down Zach Hyman’s impeccable campaign. Unbelievably, the former Leaf has 48 goals and could hit 50 in Toronto. Hate that.
After that, courtesy the Wendy’s Daily Faceoff Survivor, we previewed both contests. Will Brodie re-enter the lineup? Which goalies start when? Does Matthews get to 60 goals? Will Frederik Andersen start against the Leafs? So. Many. Questions.
Lastly, we got to our Great Clips inbox question of the day. We were asked about the Tom Wilson slash. Most specifically, would that have still taken place if Ryan Reaves were in the lineup for that game? In short, probably.
Carter Hutton will fill in for Jay Rosehill on the Monday edition of Leafs Morning Take. We’ll recap Toronto’s busy weekend, plus, we’ll look ahead to next week’s three-game slate.
Have a great weekend!
