The Leafs got John Tortorella fired: Leafs Morning Take

Fresh off a 7-2 beatdown of the Philadelphia Flyers, the Leafs are in San Jose to tangle with the Sharks for the opener of their three game California trip.
Speaking of Philadelphia, the Leafs got John Tortorella fired. Earlier today, the Flyers announced that they’ve cut ties with the 66-year-old.
That’s where the conversation started on the Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take. After that, we talked some Brad Marchand, too. In case you missed it, it sounds like the former Bruins captain could make his Panthers debut tomorrow night at home against Utah. It will be so weird to see him in a Panthers jersey.
Brought to you by Sobeys, we got into a game preview. Back on March 3rd, the Sharks nipped the Leafs 3-2 in a shootout. Toronto was awful that night. They were lucky to muster a point. With 11 games remaining, this one’s a sneaky big one if they have any aspirations of walking away with the Atlantic Division crown. Furthermore, they dissected the McMann-Tavares-Nylander trio, who are coming off a five goal, 10-point outing against Philadelphia. Let’s see if they can build off that. Additionally, we talked about Toronto’s red-hot power play. They’re 12-for-28 (42.9%) in March, which is an NHL-best. You never know what that will look like in the playoffs, but suffice it is to say, it’s good to see the PP clicking.
After that, we broke down where we think Ryan Reaves stands right now. After a few weeks away post-deadline, we found out that the veteran forward reported to the AHL’s Marlies this week. At this point, there’s no telling if he’ll actually play a game for them. Without question, it’s likely that the 38-year-old will be back with the big club once there’s no salary cap in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. We both don’t see him playing in an actual playoff game, though.
Carter Hutton will be in for Jay Rosehill on the Friday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Join us at 11 AM ET as we recap Leafs/Sharks. On top of that, we’ll preview this weekend’s back-to-back in Los Angeles and Anaheim. Also, former Leafs bench boss Randy Carlyle will drop by the show.
