Brandon Prust appears to be heading to Germany

For those who were waiting to see if Brandon Prust would swoop in, sign a contract, and steal somebody’s roster spot, well, you can either hang your head low our breathe a sigh of relief today, depending on what side of the coin your opinions lie. From the looks of it, the veteran forward is off to Europe to get some non-practice ice time.
At least, if you’re taking his fiancee, Maripier Morin’s word for it.

Maripier Morin a annoncé aujourd’hui sur les ondes de Rouge FM le déménagement de Brandon Prust en Allemagne.L’attaquant qui n’avait pas réussi à passer le test auprès des Maple Leafs de Toronto, a conclu une entente avec un club européen.Rappelons que Prust avait été échangé du Canadien de Montréal aux Canucks de Vancouver durant l’été 2015 et que la dernière saison s’était terminée de façon amère. L’athlète de 32 ans avait été limité à 35 matchs et n’avait inscrit qu’un seul but.Maripier Morin, qui devra rester ici en raison de ses contrats et de ses obligations, est optimiste quant à ce nouveau changement. Elle espère que ce déménagement sera le nouveau départ dont son conjoint a besoin.
For those of us who stopped taking French classes as soon as the school board let them, the long and short it is that Prust will not be getting a contract with the Leafs and has decided to continue his career in Europe. At 32 years old, there really was no point in him sticking around and waiting out the balance; if he were to lose this entire season by not playing at all, he’d have no shot at continuing his North American pro career.
While he’ll have to be away from his partner for the next few months (she’s staying back in Canada because, well, she obviously has a job and a life too), it’s a necessary sacrifice to keep his career going. Prior to this, Prust agreed to a PTO with the Leafs in the summer and continued to practice with the team after expiry.
This suspected move will leave Karri Ramo as the last remaining shadow vet at the Mastercard Centre.
UPDATE: The team expected to sign Prust in the coming days appears to be the Nurnberg Ice Tigers, though others also have interest.
