Checking in with the Leafs at the World Championship

After 17:23 of ice time in game one for William Nylander in a 2-1 loss against Russia, you could bet he was hungry for more.

On Saturday, William shone brightly in a 7-2 win over Germany, leading the way with a pair of goals and one beautiful assist.

Meanwhile, Mitch Marner earlier today opened his IIHF account with a marker against Slovenia to put Canada up 6-1.

Canada outshot Slovenia 51-14, so it wasn’t exactly a tight contest, but still a very impressive showing from the youngster.

And oh, he fed Nathan MacKinnon to complete the former first overall pick’s hat trick.

In their opening contest, the Canadians found themselves on the right side of the scoresheet with a 4-1 victory over the Czech Republic.

After both going scoreless in game one, the Leafs boys now have five points through a combined four games. Not bad for a couple of kids who just turned 20 and 21 this past week. A combined 3-1 record suggests these two teams may even be medal favourites later on. How about a Marner/Nylander final, shall we?
