Dmytro Timashov named player of the game in Sweden’s WJC debut

Though the main story in Toronto after Sweden’s first game at the World Juniors is the status of William Nylander, who took a blindside hit to the head in the first period and didn’t return, he wasn’t the only Leafs prospect on the ice this morning. Dmytro Timashov, who lined up with the Nylander brothers on Sweden’s top line, stole the show with two goals and an assist.
Perhaps the nicest of Timashov’s efforts was his second goal of the game, scored in the second period to put Sweden up 4-1. Timashov prevented the puck from crossing the blueline, and seconds later, put his weight into a wicked wrist shot.

Timashov also scored a powerplay goal with 30 seconds remaining in the first period, and assisted on Nylander’s goal just 81 seconds into the game. He also led Sweden with 5 shots on goal. The Swedes play their next game on Monday against the United States.
