It was not all that long ago that Andreas Borgman was a regular on the Leafs’ blueline. And now, he could be again in the future!
Despite battling through a few injuries this year with the Marlies and no doubt wanting to prove he can be an NHL player again, Borgman and the Leafs came to terms on a deal today that was a $750,000 two-way deal. Low-risk, decent reward for both sides. Hard to really say much else.
The 2016-17 Swedish Hockey League rookie of the year, Borgman played 48 games last season for the Maple Leafs before being returned to the Marlies. Known for his BIG BODY PRESENCE, he’s fallen slightly down the Leafs LD depth chart with the addition of Jake Muzzin, but along with Calle Rosen, provides some older depth, especially if Jake Gardiner doesn’t return next season.

The deal comes a day after Garret Sparks earned a one-year, one-way extension.
