The wave of junior additions continued this morning, as the Toronto Marlies added Fabrice Herzog to the ranks. Herzog had his first practice with the team today, as they prepared for a three-in-three weekend that begins in Utica tomorrow night.

Who Is He?

Herzog was drafted in the fifth round (142nd overall) by the Leafs in 2013. Born and raised in Switzerland, he made the jump from Zug to the Quebec Remparts this season, scoring 58 points in 61 games. good for fourth on the team and second in goals (32). We had Herzog in 18th on our mid-term prospect rankings list, after not making the cut in the preseason.
At 6’2, and with a power forward type game, Herzog has the potential to become a top six forward if everything goes to plan. For now, he’ll be using the next few weeks to work with the coaching staff to set himself up for next season.

Where Does He Slot In?

As I mentioned in the post about Carter Verhaeghe yesterday, it’s very hard to get forward time with the Marlies right now. He does have the advantage of playing as a winger, where the team is missing their five best due to injury or call-ups. But he’s very raw and unproven, which doesn’t work to his favour. Steve Spott said that he’s not sure when he draws in, and barring any sudden roster changes, won’t play this weekend.

Because, why not, right?
