The 2014 Clarkson Cup Championship team was honoured today at the Furies final home game of the 2016-17 season. Current Furies players wore 2014 replica jerseys with the names of the Championship team adorning the backs throughout warm ups. It was hoped that with the old guard present, the new guard would be able to bring it home for the Heritage Game, the final home game of the season, but it was not to be.

THE RUNDOWN

  • Starting in net for Toronto is Sonja van der Bliek. Starting in net for Calgary is Emerance Maschmeyer.

  • Calgary’s Jessica Campbell is called for tripping. Furies on the power play.
  • Calgary’s Bailey Bram is called for hooking. Furies on the power play.

BLUE WARRIOR

Today’s Blue Warrior goes to Sonja van der Bliek. Van der Bliek fought hard against the offensive strength of the top ranked Calgary Inferno, but ultimately (and unfortunately), the Inferno were just too much firepower. Van der Bliek wore Christina Kessler’s replica 2014 Clarkson Championship jersey during warmups to honour Kessler’s 2014 achievements.

SHOUTOUT

Two shoutouts today. Runner up shoutout goes to the 2014 Clarkson Cup Championship team who were honoured today. The 2014 team came out today to drop the puck for the final home game of the season, it was outstanding to see such an amazing group of ladies all together again.
Shoutout of today goes to Kaitlyn – the Boston Blades biggest fan. She came down to today’s game to cheer on Genevieve Lacasse, who is still one of her favourite players despite not playing for the Bladies anymore. Thank you, Kaitlyn!

COMING UP NEXT

The Furies next take the ice on Saturday, January 28th against the Boston Blades. The game will take place at Walter Brown Arena, with the puck dropping at 5pm EST.
