Furies Postgame: Furies Keep Inferno at Bay in Regulation, but Fall in OT

In the second of the back-to-back games against the Calgary Inferno, the Toronto Furies fought hard, keeping the Inferno at bay right up until the end. Like yesterday, the game went to OT. And like yesterday, the Inferno took the W.
THE RUNDOWN
- In goal for the Toronto Furies is Sonja van der Bliek, and for the Calgary Inferno is Emerance Maschmeyer.
- Inferno take the first penalty, with Laura Dostaler heading off for five minutes for bodychecking.
- With three seconds left in the first penalty, the inferno take another penalty. Jacquie Pierri sits for two minutes for bodychecking.
- Furies score on the powerplay. Julie Allen from Erin Ambrose and Michela Cava. 1-0 Furies.
- The Inferno head off for another penalty. Two minutes for hooking.
- The Furies take their first penalty of the game. Michelle Saunders heads off for two minutes for holding with 2:10 left in the first.
- Scary moment in the second when the Furies’ Erin Zach is bodychecked hard by the Inferno’s Elana Lovell. Zach remains down on the ice for a long time.
- Lovell is ejected from the game. Zach leaves the ice, but is injured.
- Toronto receives a five minute man advantage from the hit.
- End of the second, score is still 1-0 Furies.
- Furies go on the penalty kill early on when Renata Fast is sent to the box for holding.
- Furies take another penalty at the halfway mark. Cava gets two for hooking.
- Inferno takes a penalty soon after. Sarah Davis sits for two minutes for elbowing.
- Toronto’s Fast takes another penalty with 24 seconds left in the Davis penalty.
- Inferno tie the game with three seconds left in the Fast penalty. 1-1 tied game.
- Third period ends with Haley Irwin in the box for two minutes for hooking.
- Toronto starts overtime with 1:29 of a 4-on-3 man advantage.
- Brianne Jenner gives the Inferno the W with 2:43 left in OT. 3-2 Inferno.
BLUE WARRIOR
Just like yesterday, today’s Blue Warrior is the Toronto Furies goaltender. Sonja van der Bliek was stone cold in the net for the Furies today. Despite the high shots on goal, van der Bliek kept the scoring chances low and the scoring even lower. She stayed cool and calm throughout the string of penalties on both sides and was an absolute rock for the Furies.
SHOUTOUT
Shoutout today goes to Erin Zach, who was unfortunately injured in today’s game after a bodycheck from an Inferno player. I don’t know the extent of her injuries, but the all the best thoughts, best wishes, and good vibes go out to her from myself and everyone here at The Leafs Nation.
