Furies Postgame: Furies Lose, Kessler Stands Tall

The Toronto Furies took to the road and went to Montreal to play Les Canadiennes in the first of a Saturday/Sunday back-to-back rematch of the first round of last year’s Clarkson Cup Playoffs.
THE RUNDOWN
- Both teams seemed to have it in for each other from the very start. The game was a lot more intense and harsh than last week’s match up against the Blades.
- Furies score at 6:11 into the first. Caroline Prevost with the pass, Emily Fulton with the goal. 1-0 Furies.
- Poulin ties it up 29 seconds into the second, with assists from Chartrand and Chu. 1-1
- Lots of scoring shots in the second period. Only the goalies, Christina Kessler (Toronto) and Charline Labonte (Montreal) kept the scoring as low as it was.
- Lots of penalties in the third period. Moulson (Toronto) – Slashing. Coincidental roughing penalties to Spooner (Toronto) and Chartrand (Montreal). Moulson (Toronto) – Tripping.
- Poulin scores at 14:51. 2-1 Les Canadiennes.
BLUE WARRIOR
Tonight’s Blue Warrior is Christina Kessler. Kessler has been a rock for the Furies in net tonight. There were so many Les Canadiennes scoring chances that would have been goals, were it not for diving plays and vicious pokechecks by Kessler. This was particularly apparent in the third period, when it seemed like there was always at least one Furie in the penalty box.
SHOUTOUT
The shoutout for this one is a bit different. Instead of almost a secondary MVP, today’s shoutout goes to the off-ice Les Canadiennes. CWHL Live commentary gave us an insight into the off-ice lives of some of Les Canadiennes. Ann-Sophie Bettez started an investment business over the summer, and Charline Labonte training to become a chef.
COMING UP NEXT
The Toronto Furies next take the ice on Sunday, October 23, 2016, against Les Canadiennes de Montreal. The game will be held at Centre Etienne-Desmarteau with the puck dropping at 1:30pm.
