Goalie Prospect Ian Scott Undergoes Successful Hip Surgery

One of the Toronto Maple Leafs’ most highly regarded goalie prospects will be on the shelf for a minimum of six months.

The Toronto Marlies announced on Thursday afternoon that goaltender Ian Scott has undergone successful hip surgery. The club said in a statement that the procedure is being done to “correct ongoing issues related to impingement.” The injury has sidelined Scott from playing in any AHL action this season

While Scott, 20, has just one AHL regular-season game under his belt, he’s been around the Marlies quite a bit. The Calgary native was the Marlies’ third-string goaltender throughout the duration of their 2018 Calder Cup Championship run.

Scott would go on to post a monstrous season with the Prince Albert Raiders the following year, posting a 1.83 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage during a 2018-2019 campaign that saw the Leafs’ 2017 fourth-round pick lead his club to the Memorial Cup. Scott was named the WHL’s goaltender of the year and signed his entry-level contract with the Maple Leafs that season, too.

From the Marlies’ perspective, losing Scott isn’t a terrible blow as Joseph Woll and Kasimir Kaskisuo are currently manning the crease. However, you never want to see a goalie prospect miss considerable time with a lower-body ailment.
