With their 4th round pick the Leafs looked to the USHL, selecting right winger J.J. Piccinich of the Youngstown Phantoms. Piccinich scored 27 goals and 58 points in 60 games this year, good for second in team scoring and 13th in the USHL. Piccinich stands at 5’11 and weighs 190lbs.
A native of Paramus, New Jersey, Piccinich is committed to Boston University next season, one of the NCAA’s premier programs, and will play alongside the much-hyped Jack Eichel his is a project pick, as J.J. probably spends the next few years playing college hockey.
From Boston University Terriers coach David Quinn:
“Makes great plays in the offensive zone… strong on his skates and gets to the dirty areas… game translates well to college hockey… another guy who people will enjoy away from the rink.”
