Jon Abbott to take over as Leafs radio play-by-play voice

Last year’s voice of the Toronto Marlies is now the voice of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Well, he’s one of them, anyway.
With current Leafs radio play-by-play voice Dan Dunleavy leaving to take over as the future voice of the Buffalo Sabres, Jon Abbott, the play-by-play voice of the Toronto Marlies, will be taking over as the Leafs’ play-by-play man for mid-week games. You can also find Abbott on Leafs TV before and after each game.
Thats pretty impressive, not just because Abbott is going to be doing play-by-play for the NHL’s most popular team, but because he has reached this milestone at the tender age of just 28.
Accoring to the press release on MapleLeafs.com, Abbott began as a production assistant at Leafs TV before moving on to doing play-by-play work in the OHL, mostly with the Ottawa 67’s. Abbott returned to MLSE to do Marlies play-by-play for the past two campaigns.
No word yet on what the plan is with the Marlies’ play-by-play slot.
Here’s some of Abbott’s handiwork from last season, along with Marlies colour commentator and former Leaf Bob McGill. This was probably the highlight of the Marlies’ season in 2012-13.
