Just Give The Leafs The 2017 Stanley Cup Now

Tonight is the biggest night in the history of the Toronto Maple Leafs franchise. Not only did the Leafs secure for themselves a future first-line center in the NHL, but they just secured themselves the 2017 Stanley Cup.
The biggest thing at play here is that Matthews is a future Hall of Famer. How do I know? Because Sidney Crosby was the first overall pick. So was Alex Ovechkin. You can’t make this stuff up. Two future Hall of Famers drafted first overall and arguably the best two players in the NHL, and now Matthews now joins their elite company.
And let’s not forget, Crosby and Ovechkin both had over 100 points in their rookie NHL campaigns.
Add 100 points – add 100 GOALS to the Leafs lineup, and the team is nearly at 300. That sort of math is tough to debate. With such goal-scoring prowess now in their lineup, the Leafs seem poised to become the greatest team in hockey. Perhaps in its history.
With a team that now wields 300 goals and a Hall of Fame center – all just two years into the team’s supposed “long-term rebuild” and its obvious to see that the Leafs might be the best team in the league. That’s fitting because they also have the best management team in the league. Not only that, but they now possess the best jerseys.
With Matthews and the Leafs’ big white stripe flying down the ice, the Leafs will be tough to stop.
Could it be? The 100th season? The outdoor game? The team that finished 30th one year, only to finish 1st the next?
Yes.
It. Could.
Wouldn’t it be symmetrical? And a paradox of things? The Leafs ending their 50 year cup drought, with the 1st overall pick, in their 100th NHL season?
This is the sort of thing dreams are made of. But luckily it won’t be a dream. The Leafs are now a future dominant team because of American center Auston Matthews.
And soon, the Stanley Cup will be lifted in the streets of the greatest city on earth.
Congratulations to the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, the best organization in sports.
Congratulations to the Buds fans, greatest fans in sports.
And congrats to the city of Toronto, also known as the capital of the world.
God Bless America.
