The Nick Robertson injury is certainly a crushing blow for the Leafs prospect and the fact that it isn’t going to be a short absence certainly makes it even worse…
With Robertson’s absence the Leafs are sitting at 12 forwards, but they are also facing the likelihood of a suspension for Pierre Engvall and that warrants a recall from the Marlies, and the next contestant is…
Joey Anderson is an interesting choice. He brings some physical, feisty play that would compliment the Aston-Reese and Kampf fourth line, but he also comes with some concerning foot speed and has struggled to keep up with the pace of the NHL. He has 19 points in 21 games for the Marlies, including 11 goals so there is also some hope that he can translate some of that offense to the NHL by grinding away in front of the net, but generally the perception of Anderson has been that he is one hell of an AAAA-player. Now is going to be his best opportunity to prove naysayers wrong.
