For some of you reading that title, the first question might be “who?” but here we are, another day and another Leafs recall…
Of course, for a lot of you, if you are reading about the Leafs you are well aware that the Leafs made a minor last minute trade on the trade deadline that sent Dryden Hunt to the Flames and Toronto acquired Radim Zohorna. In his six games with the Marlies he’s picked up a goal and an assist, but most importantly he has that thing you can’t teach and that is size. As a 6’6 center there is likely some interest in seeing what this giant can do in fourth line capacity.
Zohorna had a more productive run when he was with the Calgary Wranglers. He picked up 29 points in 40 games, and at the NHL level (with the Penguins) he has 10 points in 33 games. Not bad numbers for a potential fourth liner and I’m sure there is some curiosity if he can develop some quick chemistry with his fellow countryman, David Kampf.
The move was something the Leafs could afford to do thanks to the recent demotion of Joseph Woll and it will give Toronto a bit more of an opportunity to run with 12 forwards and 6 defensemen until Ryan O’Reilly returns, which will come sometime after the weekend.
There is also still the matter of sorting out what is happening with Bobby McMann, who was injured and is expected to miss a significant amount of time.
A full update on the condition of the Leafs and who is playing with who will likely come following the Leafs practice which has just started.
