Leafs Prospect Stephen Desrocher Traded to Kingston

8 years agoYou all remember Stephen Desrocher right? He’s the overager the Leafs drafted in the sixth round. He plays defense. He won the Memorial Cup with Oshawa last year. Well, now he’s on the move to Kingston and that’s probably a good thing.
Coming off their Memorial Cup win, the Generals are facing the issue that most junior teams not named the London Knights face in that circumstance, they need to reload their system. While Oshawa has maintained some level of competitiveness so far, the Frontenacs are currently first in their division and gives Desrocher the best shot at another deeper playoff run before moving on to the Marlies or Solar Bears next year.
The Kingston Frontenacs have acquired defenseman Stephen Desrocher from the Oshawa Generals for 3rd and 5th round selections in 2016, 2nd round selection in 2017, 2nd round selection in 2018, and two conditional selections in 2019 and 2021 in the 3rd and 2nd round at the OHL Priority Selection.The 6’4, 198lbs Toronto, Ontario native, Desrocher, was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 6th round of the 2015 NHL Draft after scoring 23 points (10 goals, 13 assists) with a +/- 33 in 66 games for Oshawa in the 2014-15 OHL season.“Adding Stephen is another very important piece of the puzzle that we are trying to assemble. He’s a leader and a player that knows what it takes to win in this league. Stephen moves the puck extremely well and will be a huge boost for our power play. In terms of defensemen that we wanted to add to our team, he was on the top of the list,” said General Manager, Doug Gilmour.
Desrocher will be doing some heavy lifting which is exactly what you’d hope he’d be doing as he wraps up his junior career. So far in his seventeen games this season, Desrocher has put up 11 points, and will likely be paired regularly with fellow overager Roland McKeown.
