Leafs Recall Petter Granberg, Brandon Kozun

No matter what happened, Petter Granberg and Brandon Kozun’s next games were going to be at the Air Canada Centre. After all, the Toronto Marlies play a special family day game there this afternoon against Binghamton. But thanks to a pair of call ups, their jerseys will have a Leafs logo on the chest instead.
Granberg was in the Leafs lineup on Saturday against Montreal, and with Cody Franson traded, will probably get some more time moving forward. The 22 year old native of Gallivare, Sweden has spent the bulk of his time with the Marlies this year, tying his career high of seven points despite playing less than half the amount of games. His appearances with the Leafs have been kind of rocky this year, but with the team free-falling into the abyss, they’re willing to let the growing pains happen.
Kozun hasn’t played a game for the Leafs since December 10th. He was a feel-good story early in the year, making the team out of camp and getting his first NHL point in his first game. However, he suffered a high ankle sprain in mid-October and when he returned, was placed on waivers after a single game. Kozun’s year with the Marlies hasn’t been particularly lights out; he has five goals and six assists in twenty three games, but appears to be regaining his step as time progresses. Again, the Leafs don’t really need to worry about getting points in the standings any more, so this could be an extended look to see if he’s an asset worth keeping. At the least, he fills in for Mike Santorelli if Olli Jokinen doesn’t play.
