BLOCKBUSTER ALERT:
Today, it was announced that the Leafs acquired a 7th round pick two years from now for a player most people didn’t really remember was even affiliated with the organization.
Fehr was acquired last season in a move for depth defender Frankie Corrado, which also saw a fourth-round pick headed to Pittsburgh in that deal. After rotating into the Leafs’ lineup alongside Dominic Moore to start the year, Fehr was loaned to the AHL’s San Diego Gulls (Anaheim’s affiliate) where he registered a respectable 17 goals and 11 assists in the 34 games he played there.
For the Leafs, it’s hard to view the trade as anything more than adding another lottery ticket, as they clearly had no use for Fehr in the pipeline. He’s not going to breaking out into any superstar role at age 32, but that being said, also didn’t really have any cost of acquisition at all.
Okay, it isn’t really a blockbuster. But it is a trade that affects the Leafs’ ability to add at the deadline, as the move takes them down to 48 NHL contracts, out of a potential 50. Whether he gets into the Sharks lineup on a regular basis is yet to be seen.
Eric Fehr ends his Leafs career with zero goals, zero assists, and one minor penalty.
Farewell, Eric. We hardly knew ye.
