The trade deadline has come and gone, but with that said, the Leafs have managed to sneak in another move. This time, they’ve sent Korbinian Holzer to the Anaheim Ducks for Eric Brewer and a draft pick.

What The?

This isn’t really a hockey trade. Holzer has enticed teams for a while due to his size and physicality, but hasn’t really turned that into any sort of positive result in the NHL just yet. On the other hand, his contract is a very affordable one at $788,000, whereas Eric Brewer carries a cap hit of $2.868 million.
At the same time, the Ducks have been pretty busy today, and most notably acquired James Wisinewski from the Columbus Blue Jackets for Rene Bourque, William Karlsson, and a second round pick. Making this trade puts the Ducks under the cap and buys the Leafs another asset.
Brewer is 35 years old and has six points in 26 games with the Ducks and Tampa Bya Lightning this year. He was traded to the Ducks for a third round pick in December and has previously played for St. Louis, Edmonton, and the New York Islanders.
