LGD: Teach Me How To Dougie
Now that the Oilers are over and done with, the Leafs travel across Alberta to take on the Calgary Flames. That’s a little less interesting from a hockey perspective, but with Dougie Hamilton and Brian Burke both being things, storylines are flying high tonight. Here’s what’ll be going down:
The Leafs

LW | C | RW |
---|---|---|
James van Riemsdyk | Tyler Bozak | Mitchell Marner |
Zach Hyman | Auston Matthews | Connor Brown |
Leo Komarov | Nazem Kadri | Nikita Soshnikov |
Matt Martin | William Nylander | Ben Smith |
Defensive Pairings | |
---|---|
Morgan Rielly | Nikita Zaitsev |
Jake Gardiner | Connor Carrick |
Matt Hunwick | Roman Polak |
The lineup appears to be the same tonight. Hard to blame them. We’ll see if the Nylander line plays for longer than a song today.
The Flames
Calgary Flames lines courtesy of Daily Faceoff
LW | C | RW |
---|---|---|
Kris Versteeg | Sean Monahan | Troy Brouwer |
Matthew Tkachuk | Mikael Backlund | Michael Frolik |
Sam Bennett | Matt Stajan | Alex Chiasson |
Micheal Ferland | Freddie Hamilton | Garnet Hathaway |
Defensive Pairings | |
---|---|
Mark Giordano | Dougie Hamilton |
T.J. Brodie | Dennis Wideman |
Jyrki Jokipakka | Deryk Engelland |
Kris Versteeg is back on a Burke-overseen team and Matt Stajan is still alive. None of Calgary’s centres are scoring right now; don’t leave them too much room, but know that the wingers are likely to be slightly more confident. But only slightly; nobody is really scoring.
Starting Goaltenders
Frederik Andersen is going in for back to back nights. I guess the feeling is that his workload wasn’t terrible yesterday, that the travel distance is short, and that Jhonas Enroth hasn’t given them much in the second half of these back to backs. The Flames are struggling hard to fill the the net, too, so maybe this is the right time to double Freddy up.
Chad Johnson takes the other net. He gave up five against the Flyers on Saturday night but has otherwise been quite good for Calgary, posting a 7-4-1 record over 12 starts and a 0.922 save percentage. The Flames have given up a lot of goals this year, but not as many have come at his expense.
What To Look Out For
What colour Hamilton’s jersey is when he steps on the ice for warmups. Also, for Mitch Marner to be the little guy in Johnny Gaudreau’s house. Puck drop is at 8:30 PM, catch it on Sportsnet.
