The Toronto Maple Leafs drag some road woes into a matchup against a surging opponent who has been tough to score against of late.
The Maple Leafs are +120 underdogs on the road while the Pittsburgh Penguins are -140 home favourites with a 6.5-goal total on the NHL odds for Tuesday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The Maple Leafs are 3-8 in their last 11 games as an away underdog with the total finishing UNDER six times at online betting sites. The Penguins are 14-4 in their last 18 games as a home favourite and the UNDER is 4-0-1 over their last five games, both home and away.

Maple Leafs at Penguins | OddsShark Matchup Report

The Maple Leafs are 31-21-8 as they play their third game in four nights after splitting weekend road games against two non-playoff contenders, the Ottawa Senators and Buffalo Sabres.
Toronto is sixth in the 31-team NHL in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (52.3 percent), but is struggling to get offence from the supporting cast beyond the lines centered by Auston Matthews and John Tavares. The Maple Leafs are third in goals scored (3.50 per game) and 26th in goals against (3.25). On special teams, the power play is ranked third (24.8 percent) but the penalty killing unit is ranked 23rd (78.0).
Frederik Andersen has a 24-11-6 record with a 2.93 goals-against average and .908 save percentage this season, but the Maple Leafs’ all-star goalie has a 3.95 GAA and .857 save percentage in his last three games.
The Penguins are 36-15-8, including a 6-3 mark as a home favourite of -125 to -145 on the moneyline. The presence of veteran centers Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin has helped the Penguins, who are 12th in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (50.8 percent), affirm that the best defence is a strong offence as they have allowed three or fewer goals in 14 of their last 15 games. The Penguins are third in goals scored (3.30 per game) and sixth in goals against (2.67). The Pittsburgh power play is ranked 14th (20.5 percent) and the penalty killing unit is ranked eighth (82.5).
After Thursday’s rematch at home against the Penguins, the Maple Leafs host the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday.
