The theme of the day for Toronto has been scooping up prospects who are in their 2nd or even 3rd year of draft eligibility. “Overagers” relative to the draft, essentially. They’ve grabbed another prospect fitting this bill with Jack Walker of the WHL’s Victoria Royals.
Walker is another pick who wasn’t highly touted on any pre-draft lists (we’re in the last rounds now, after all), but McKeen’s and HockeyProspect.com did have him on their final rankings at 90th and 158th, respectively.
HockeyProspect’s scouting report on Walker shows his strengths are his speed and shiftiness.
Walker is a very high-end skater and most of his game is based just around that…he is quite an adept puck-handler with a rather soft pair of hands…extremely difficult for defending players to close gaps on him…could utilize his skating even more than he does to be a defensive presence.
