The Toronto Maple Leafs will have revenge on their minds when they face off against the Boston Bruins in first-round NHL playoff action starting this week, but they’ll have to overcome a sluggish end to their regular-season schedule to pick up the series victory over their rival.
And at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com there are three main ways to wager on the Bruins vs. Maple Leafs first-round matchup, starting with the series price that has Boston as the -155 betting favourite (wager $155 to win $100). The Bruins are also set at +900 (wager $100 to win $900) on the Stanley Cup odds heading into the playoffs, with the Maple Leafs behind at +1800 on those futures. Game 1 of the series on Thursday has Boston set at -150.

The Maple Leafs had to settle for third place in the Atlantic Division thanks to a 3-4-3 run over their last 10 outings, which gave second place in the division and home-ice advantage in their best-of-seven first-round playoff series to the Bruins. That’s a rematch from the opening round of last year’s postseason, which the Bruins managed to claim in the full seven games.
If the Maple Leafs are hoping for a different outcome this time around they’ll have to find a way to knock off the Bruins, something they managed to do just once in the four regular-season meetings between the two teams. That lone Toronto victory came back on November 26, with the Maple Leafs winning 4-2 as -160 home favourites on the NHL betting lines.
Boston claimed the first game between the two teams this past season on November 10, winning 5-1 as -150 home favourites. The Bruins subsequently beat the Maple Leafs 6-3 as +115 home underdogs on December 8, and 3-2 as +110 road underdogs on January 12.
Toronto has lost five of its last six games heading into Game 1 of their first-round series, falling 6-5 in a meaningless game at Montreal to close out their campaign on Saturday night at -110 on the NHL odds. That was the first OVER result turned in by the Maple Leafs in their past five games, ending a run of four straight UNDERs on the totals dating back to March 30.
The Bruins, though, turned in middling results down the stretch as well, winning just three of their past seven games. Boston fell 6-3 at home to Tampa Bay as -120 favourites on Saturday.
