In a move that was made official on Friday morning, the Leafs have hired Coyotes legend Shane Doan as Special Advisor to general manager Brad Treliving.
This marks the first substantial move for the Leafs with the 53-year-old Treliving at the helm. Of course, Doan and Treliving have a strong relationship dating back to their days in Arizona together. Effectively, Doan would fill the role left behind by Jason Spezza, who resigned from his post following Kyle Dubas’ dismissal.

Meantime, we kicked off the Friday edition of Leafs Morning Take by breaking down Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final. Honestly, how clutch is Matthew Tkachuk? The Leafs need some of that. Thanks to their come from behind OT victory, the Panthers have life. Vegas leads the series 2-1. Game 4 goes Saturday night in Sunrise.
Without question, the feature presentation of today’s show was guest Milan Lucic. Even though we all hated him as a Bruin, it’s tough to dislike Looch now. He was a lot of fun! We talked about his recent experience winning gold at the World Championship, free agency, and he even broke down a scrap with Jay Rosehill from March of 2011.

So, could Lucic find his way to Toronto this summer? You never know.
“You can never rule anything out. Obviously, it’s an Original Six franchise, storied franchise; I’ve had my fair share of rivalries with the team. And now, with Brad Treliving coming in, there’s some familiarity there.”
Lastly, for the Betano Wrap Up, I like the Denver point spread tonight in Game 4 of the NBA Finals on the road in Miami. Let’s ride! The Nuggets lead the series 2-1.
Join us on Monday at 11 AM ET where we’ll be joined by another fantastic guest. Matthew Knies will make his second appearance on Leafs Morning Take.
