It appears that the Leafs will always have at least one player in the NHL’s 3 Stars of the Week. After his record-breaking week, Morgan Rielly has been named the second star this week.
Rielly broke one of Bobby Orr’s records this week – scoring 12 points as a defenceman in his first five games of the season. An absolutely unreal feat by the Leafs defenceman that not only broke a legend’s record but his own as well.
He was able to set a career-high four assists in the 7-4 win over the Dallas Stars as well.
Currently leading the entire league in assists with 10, Rielly has been offensively very impressive in this early season. With 13 points in just his first six games, Rielly is making his mark on this Leafs team. Even leading the league in points for a couple nights as a defenceman is remarkable.
According to the NHL, only two other defensemen in League history have recorded as many points through their team’s opening six games: Toronto’s Harry Cameron in 1917-18 (9-6—15) and Vancouver’s Paul Reinhart in 1989-90 (5-9—14).
Morgan Rielly is now in the record books.
