Morning after-recap: Serving up justice

Here’s a good recap from last night:

The Leafs haven’t been winning a whole lot recently and even less in regulation.

They didn’t win in regulation, even though they probably should have and deserved to after uh, a questionable call.

It was a dumb game, and frustrations have been high in recent times in Toronto.

But hey, a win’s a win’s a win.

The ‘Hawks hit up the board first with a Powerplay goal off the stick off Brent Seabrook.

It was just the third goal of the season for Seabrook, who’s seen his name mixed into trade rumours, social media, jokes, and all sorts of other shenanigans recently. The puck appeared to bounce off of Leo Komarov’s stick before skipping past Frederik Andersen… and it’s 1-0 Hawks.

Face it, Mitch.

You’re a star and everyone knows it. Scoring goals when you don’t even shoot it.

Winners win.

This goal was originally credited to Jake Gardiner, but it’s clear from this angle that Mitch re-directed it.

Ron Hainsey picked up a point too, which is cool.

WELL THAT WAS #nice, wasn’t it?

Tyler Bozak and Nazem Kadri seem to combine for a goal once every four months or so, which is cool because we’ve been arguing about them for about 40 years. Having a surprisingly long down stretch after his great start to the season, Kadri gave the Leafs the lead after finding an opening out in front.

It was Kadri’s first PP goal since the opening night of the season, and hopefully sparks a bit of an offensive, uh, jolt? Spark? We already said spark. Hopefully it inspires him, you know?

Okay, we won’t even begin to pretend to understand this one.
Artem Anisimov is fully sitting on top of Frederik Andersen as the puck enters the net here, and initiates contact with his knee into Andersen’s back.

With no chance to make the save, Nick Schmaltz kind of wafts in and flips the puck over Andersen and in.

After a lengthy review, the referee crew determined this was… still a goal?

Hrm.

Well then, the Leafs lead evaporates and we’re onto the rest of the third period to run around and hope they don’t lose again.

OVERTIME STARTS AND WILLIAM NYLANDER COMES IN ON A BREAKAWAY AND…. GETS SLASHED ON THE HANDS.

PUT HIM UP AT CENTRE ICE… AND FOLLOW THESE STEPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL PENALTY SHOT

After the questionable call to tie up the game, justice is served and the Leafs pick up the full two points from the contest.
