Nick Alberga & Jay Rosehill offer immediate reaction to the Joseph Woll injury: Leafs Morning Take

Just like that, the Martin Jones signing is proving to be that much more vital for Brad Treliving and the Maple Leafs. Disaster has struck.
But seriously, can this team and fan base not have nice things? Up until sustaining the apparent leg injury, Joseph Woll was having the game of his life, and despite leaving mid-way through the third period, he was still – by far – the biggest reason that the Leafs skated away with the two points. He was downright incredible. What an unfortunate development.
Furthermore, kudos to Martin Jones for stepping up. That’s a tough way for any netminder to enter a game, never mind when it’s your debut with your new team. The veteran made some big-time stops down the stretch to help solidify a rare regulation victory.
With all that in mind, the win was a side-bar story on Thursday night. After the game, Sheldon Keefe confirmed that his No. 1 goalie is going to “miss some time for sure” and the team will determine the full extent of his injury upon their return to Toronto. Yeah, not good. At any rate, I got together with Jay Rosehill for a quick hitter to break down what all of this means.

At the end of the day, the Leafs have no choice but to take a ‘next man up’ approach moving forward. That said, unfortunately, Ilya Samsonov hasn’t been feeling great lately, which will only add to the stress level of everyone surrounding the situation. It’s a cruel sport sometimes.
For more reaction, make sure to tune into the Friday edition of Leafs Morning Take at 11 AM ET. We’ll recap Leafs/Sens plus look ahead to Saturday night’s home tilt with Nashville. Speaking of which, Luke Schenn, who left Toronto for Music City, will stop by his third all-time appearance on the show.
