The Toronto Maple Leafs are reliable at taking care of business as a heavy favourite on home ice, but history also suggests don’t expect a shootout just because Connor McDavid is in town. With wins in nine of their last 10 games, the Maple Leafs are the -210 home favourite while the Edmonton Oilers are the +175 away underdog with a 6.5-goal total on the NHL odds for Monday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Toronto is 13-3 over 16 games as a home favourite of -200 to -250 on the moneyline at sports betting sites, with the total finishing OVER nine times. The Maple Leafs are also 6-3 in their last nine home games against Western Conference teams, with the total finishing UNDER in the six most recent matchups. The Oilers, meanwhile, are 5-0 in their last five away games as an underdog of +150 to +200, with the total finishing UNDER in all five games. Edmonton also has an 8-2 record in its last 10 away games against Eastern Conference teams, with the total finishing UNDER seven times.

Oilers at Maple Leafs | OddsShark Matchup Report

The Oilers’ 22-17-5 overall record includes a 12-7 mark as an away underdog, with the total finishing UNDER in 12 of those 19 games. Edmonton, it goes without saying, boasts two of the NHL’s top scorers in McDavid and center Leon Draisaitl, but the Oilers struggle to drive pace when playing at even strength, ranking 28th in the 31-team NHL in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (47.4 percent). As a result, the Oilers are 18th in goals scored (2.93 per game) and also 18th in goals against (3.11). Edmonton is often bailed out by the league’s best power play (29.6 percent) and the penalty killing unit is ranked fourth (83.2).
Veteran goalie Mike Smith, who has an 8-9-3 record with a 3.01 goals-against average and .897 save percentage, has helped the Oilers earn points in their two most recent games. Mikko Koskinen, 14-8-2 with a 2.85 GAA and .912 save percentage, has not played since December 31.
The Maple Leafs are 24-14-5 this season, including a 5-2 record as a home favourite since Sheldon Keefe took the coaching reins in November. Center Auston Matthews is on a nine-game point streak that began immediately after Toronto’s 4-1 win at Edmonton on December 14. The Maple Leafs have been receiving effective work up and down their forward depth chart and now rank fifth in the NHL in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (52.7 percent). Toronto is second in the NHL in goals scored (3.58 per game) and ranks 17th in goals against (3.09). The Leafs’ power play is ranked sixth (24.4 percent) and the penalty kill is ranked 26th (75.6).
Goalie Frederik Andersen had the night off when the Maple Leafs won 2-0 against the New York Islanders on Saturday. Andersen is 21-8-4 with a 2.67 goals-against average and .916 save percentage this season; he has a 2.82 GAA and .913 save percentage with three or more days’ rest.
The Maple Leafs host the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday to conclude their three-game homestand, then take a three-day break before visiting the Florida Panthers on Saturday.
