Yesterday the Leafs added Ryan Tverberg to their organization and today the influx of prospects continued.
Ovchinnikov is already signed to an entry level deal with the Leafs and has played seven games with the Marlies last season picking up a couple of goals in his brief appearance.
This season was Ovchinnikov’s first full time year in the KHL and had some of the frequent challenges regarding icetime. Dmitri had 13 points (5 goals) in 68 games. For a player who is very much an offence first kind of player getting an opportunity for a top six role is probably beneficial. If he doesn’t get that chance this season in the AHL, it will most certainly come next year.
Since Ovchinnikov was under contract and loaned to the KHL, Dmitri has burned through two years of his entry level deal already. His cap hit next season is $835k.
