Report: Nylander Still Feeling Effects of WJC Concussion

We’ve finally got an update on William Nylander’s status following a blindside hit-to-the-head that knocked him out of the World Juniors Championships, and unfortunately, it’s not great.

According to Damien Cox on Saturday Headlines, Nylander’s concussion symptoms prevented him from flying back to Toronto from Helsinki until this past Wednesday. Now that he’s back and under the Leafs medical staff’s care, he’ll begin his return-to-play concussion protocol.

Before being loaned to Team Sweden, Nylander was having himself a hell of a season with the Toronto Marlies in the AHL. In 27 games, Nylander was leading the league with 14 goals and 34 points. Even now, he still sits second in AHL scoring (and only a single point behind leader Travis Morin).

Now, it looks like Nylander won’t just miss the AHL All-Star Classic later this month. Cox says that there was some talk of promoting Nylander to the Maple Leafs at some point following the NHL All-Star break, but those plans have now been put on hold.
