Toronto Maple Leafs C Auston Matthews will miss the all-star game due to a wrist ailment, the team announced Wednesday.
The Maple Leafs say while he will attend the event, he won’t be participating in any on-ice events and is considered day-to-day.
TSN’s Darren Dreger reported that Matthew’s agent, Judd Moldaver, said Auston has been dealing with a wrist issue for “at least three weeks.”
“Collectively the Leafs and all involved decided he needs the rest,” Dreger wrote in a tweet. “He’s more than happy to represent in St Louis in any off ice capacity.”
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, meanwhile, reported that Matthews is expected to be ready to play when Toronto resumes action Monday in Nashville.
“He spent the bye week at home, training in Scottsdale, when the decision was made to keep him off the ice this weekend,” Friedman tweeted.
Matthews has scored 34 goals and added 23 points for 47 points through in 49 games this season.
