When the Leafs take a penalty, Leafs Nation rightfully gets nervous. The Bruins opened the scoring in the first period on the man advantage and then, early in the second, got another chance on the power play.
But just a few seconds into the power play, Mitch Marner got sprung on a breakaway. He slowed down just enough to allow Jake DeBrusk time to catch up and drag him down. For his efforts, Marner was awarded a penalty shot.
And he delivered…
Here’s another look…
Let’s see that one more time…
It was Marner’s second goal of the game, as he got the Leafs on the board when the Leafs were down 1-0 in the first period…
With the penalty shot goal, Marner became the second-ever Leaf to score on a penalty shot in the playoffs. The only ever time it happened was all the way back in 1999 when Mats Sundin scored on a penalty shot in the Conference Final on Dominik Hasek. Atta boy, Mitchy!
