The Leafs are down 3-1. This sucks. We’re complaining about it.
We asked our staff: what’s your biggest gripe with the team this series?

Scott Maxwell

My biggest gripe with this team was their play in the first two games in Boston. They had never played that bad all season, and to suddenly play like that to start the playoffs not only was terrible to watch, but it also dug the Leafs into a hole that they haven’t gotten out of yet. Going 1-1 in Toronto wouldn’t have been as much of a problem, if they hadn’t played as badly as they did in Boston.

My biggest gripe probably lies with myself for believing that we could win.
But with the team I have to say it lies with the defense and goaltending. Freddie has had three poor games out of four. And our defensive depth is non-existent.

Thomas Williams

For me, the biggest gripe has been with the team’s defense as a whole. Just little plays that allowed Boston to create some key scoring chances and actually score some goals. There was nothing major, other than actually having certain players in the lineup, but just breaking down at the worst moments and causing the Bruins to have a substantial lead in this series. Hopefully this doesn’t lead to any panic trades or signings.

Personally, the biggest gripe has to have been William Nylander’s lack of production. I hate to say it, but he really hasn’t looked dangerous at all this series. I don’t think it changes his long-term outlook at all, but right now is a bad time for him to get into a funk. Let’s hope he can change our minds on Saturday night, but I’m not sure he has the capacity to right now.
