After a 12-game absence, David Kampf is set to return from injury as the Leafs visit the Dallas Stars.
And so, life officially begins – even though he’s already missed two games – without Anthony Stolarz. On Tuesday, it was announced that the 30-year-old will be out of action for 4-6 weeks with a knee issue. Next man up!
Speaking of which, we kicked off the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take by discussing Toronto’s crease and how Craig Berube should deploy things without Stolarz in the mix. While we both agreed that Dennis Hildeby has earned a few more starts, we also think it wouldn’t be a bad idea to call up Murray and have Hildeby continue to develop in the AHL. This is why they employ the two-time Stanley Cup champion, right? He’s there for insurance purposes, and indisputably, now’s the time to roll him out —provided he’s fully healthy, of course.
After that, we previewed tonight’s game in Dallas. For what it’s worth, the Leafs have won six straight meetings with Dallas. Joseph Woll will get the call. As mentioned, Kampf will be back in. Judging by lines at practice, it looks like Connor Dewar could be a healthy scratch. Furthermore, we discussed the new-found Nylander-Matthews-Marner super trio and if that combination has staying power. Personally, I don’t like the balance if you stack the top line, but that’s just me.
Meantime, brought to you by Charm Diamond Centres, we welcomed back the incomparable Paul Bissonnette for another visit. Suffice it is to say, he’s had a busy/memorable past month. In addition to getting his thoughts on his beloved Maple Leafs, yes, we did discuss his now infamous restaurant brawl against six dudes in Scottsdale. Biz the best, and we love him.
