Holy smokes, what a show.
Lots of content!
After taking a few days off, Jay Rosehill made his triumphant return for the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. And, as mentioned, what a return it was as we ended up having a ton to talk about. First and foremost, we kicked things off by discussing the Fraser Minten news. On Tuesday morning, the Leafs assigned the 20-year-old back to the American Hockey League. For a variety of reasons, the move made sense. Minten’s contractual status is an asset. He doesn’t need waivers to go down, and quite honestly, that’s probably the biggest reason for the transaction.
Then, we got into a few of the storylines from the past few days. It took a while, but Max Domi finally collected his first goal of the season. On top of that, it was his first point since October 21st —if you can believe it. Furthermore, I got Rosey’s thoughts on Domi being back at centre and if the McMann-Domi-Robertson trifecta could potentially work long-term. Meantime, John Tavares is coming off his fifth hat-trick as a Leaf and 13th career. He’s been awesome this year. We talked about whether being the captain in Toronto is a bit of a burden. For the record, I don’t buy that one bit.
At any rate, brought to you by Charm Diamond Centres, we then conducted a pair of interviews. Firstly, former Leaf/NHL tough Brad May made his first ever visit on the show. He was a lot of fun. In addition to giving his opinion on the current team, naturally, May Day talked some fighting —including a special scrap with Rosey back in the day. Check it out!
Meantime, in case you missed it, legendary sports broadcaster Stephen Brunt is in the midst of launching a limited edition 6-episode series called ‘Up Close.’ Episode 1, which dropped earlier today in podcast form wherever you find your podcasts, features an interview with current MLSE President and CEO Keith Pelley. This is appointment viewing, folks. It will be available on YouTube on Wednesday.
As we were doing that, the Leafs dropped the Anthony Stolarz bombshell. The 30-year-old, who’s having a dynamite first season with the team, will be out 4-to-6 weeks due to a knee issue. In fact, it was announced that he will be undergoing a procedure in New York on Wednesday. At least it’s not Germany, right? From day-to-day to 4-6 weeks in a flash. There’s never a dull day in this market.
We’ll be back in the mix for the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take (11 AM ET). We’ll preview David Kampf’s return to the lineup as the Leafs visit Dallas. Also, Paul Bissonnette makes his highly anticipated return to the show.
