Matt Murray has exited Sunday’s game against the Detroit Red Wings and won’t return, the Toronto Maple Leafs said.

Murray was injured late in the first period after a falling Lucas Raymond took his feet out from underneath them. The incident happpend at the 16:16 mark, and was replaced by Ilya Samsonov.

Murray’s in his first year with the Leafs after being acquired from the Ottawa Senators. It’s been a year of trials and tribulations for the two-time Stanley Cup winning goaltender.

He’s appeared in just 25 games missing extended stints throughout the year. In the games he’s appeared in, Murray has gone 12-8-2 posting a .905 save percentage and a 2.97 GAA.

Between 2019-20, his final year with the Pittsburgh Penguins, and his two years with the Ottawa Senators, he appeared in 85 games posting a 35-36-8 record, a .899 save percentage and a 3.06 GAA.

While he showed well in November and December with the Leafs, there’s questions marks as to whether or not he could be the guy the way the Leafs were hoping when they acquired him. The Leafs acquired him, and a 3rd round pick, in what was a defacto cap dump with Toronto sending back a 7th round pick.

After this season, Murray has one year left on a deal paying him $6.25-million.
