It’s still months away but I can’t wait for the next time that the Leafs get together with the Edmonton Oilers.
On Thursday, Darnell Nurse commented publicly for the first time since the Ryan Reaves hit last Saturday night. Unsurprisingly, Nurse wasn’t too happy about went down saying it was “pretty obvious” that Reaves was looking to inflict pain with the hit. Believe it or not, that comment actually prompted Reaves’ brother Jordan to pipe up on social media. He made it a valid point saying “you could tell that looking at your skates..” Keep your head up, kids. By the way, Rosey wasn’t a big fan of Nurse’s comments. He went at him a bit.
That’s where the conversation started on the Friday edition of Leafs Morning Take.

Courtesy of Prime Video, we discussed the latest news and notes from practice. According to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli, Auston Matthews is still in Germany receiving treatment. That said, he’s reportedly on track to return on Wednesday night in Sunrise against the Florida Panthers. Love it! In addition to the Papi talk, we did talk some Matthew Knies, too. The Leafs haven’t really revealed much on that front. He has an upper body injury. Also, we did debate whether it would make sense for Craig Berube to potentially dress 11 and 7.After that, we got to our quarter mark review. Through 20 games, the Leafs are 12-6-2. All in all, we both agreed that they’ve certainly exceeded expectations. There’s been some turbulence, but for the most part, the positives have grossly outweighed the cons. Craig Berube has this team playing differently. Ultimately though, as per usual, they will be judged on how they do in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Then, we got into another edition of Take It or Leaf it.
  1. Fraser Minten will not play another AHL this season
  2. At some point this season, Alex Nylander will sign a NHL deal with the Leafs
  3. Craig Berube will be a finalist for the Jack Adams Trophy
To wrap, we quickly previewed Sunday night’s home game against the Utah Hockey Club. More than any other team, the Leafs should be ecstatic with the franchise relocation. That’s because the Coyotes owned them. Dating back to 2004, the Coyotes went 18-6-2 against Toronto. Ridiculous.
At any rate, Carter Hutton will be in for Jay Rosehill on the Monday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Join us at 11 AM ET as we recap the Leafs/Utah Hockey Club game. Also, fresh off being enshrined into the Hockey Hall of Fame, David Poile will drop by the show.
