Doesn’t it feel like a sneaky big weekend for the Maple Leafs?
Toronto, who’s a pedestrian 6-5-2 through 13 outings, will host the Calgary Flames tonight and the red-hot Vancouver Canucks tomorrow night.
Crucial.
Anthony Stewart filled in for Jay Rosehill on the Friday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Firstly, we kicked off the show by discussing the dark times in Edmonton. Jay Woodcroft is on the hot seat, and Jack Campbell, who was Edmonton’s starter in the season opener, is down in Bakersfield of the American Hockey League trying to find himself again. Yeah, it’s been a tough start for a team many thought had legitimate Stanley Cup aspirations this season.
Presented by DoorDash, The Appetizer focused on Toronto’s potential lineup against Calgary. As the show progressed, we got word that John Klingberg is injured and won’t play tonight. Additionally, Jake McCabe, who missed a handful of games due to a groin injury, is set to make his return to the lineup.
After that, we welcomed in The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta. The NHL Insider dished on Klingberg, the Ryan Reaves situation, William Nylander’s next contract, and who could make sense for the Leafs to target on the trade market.
Meantime, brought to you by the Wendy’s Daily Faceoff Survivor, we previewed Friday’s game against Calgary and Saturday’s tilt against Vancouver. Plain and simple, the Leafs need some results this weekend. It’s important to have them feeling good before their trip to Sweden next week for the Global Series.
Jay Rosehill will be back in the mix on Monday. Join us at 11 AM ET for a full breakdown of the final two games of Toronto’s five game homestand. Also, we’ll begin to tee up the two games – against Detroit and Minnesota – overseas.
