What a win in Boston.
Mitch Marner scored the OT winner as the Leafs defied the odds to come-from-behind and take down the rival Bruins 5-4.
For all intents and purposes, they had minimal business winning that game. They found a way, though.
Naturally, that’s where the conversation started on the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. For what it’s worth, Marner had 12 points in the four regular season meetings with Boston. All in all, it was a huge win for Toronto as both Florida and Tampa won yet again. We took a look at the Atlantic Division standings to add some context to the conversation.
Courtesy Sobeys, we recapped Toronto’s improbable victory at TD Garden. Mitch Marner was great, so was Anthony Stolarz. On top of that, Pontus Holmberg and Nick Robertson continued their hot play. Meantime, we gave some love to Morgan Rielly, who to a degree, flew under the radar racking up a four point night. It was a huge character win! Also, we spent quite a bit of time breaking down the injury to Chris Tanev. That’s a massive loss —especially with the deadline just around the corner.
Brought to you by Firehouse Subs, The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta dropped by the show. The NHL Insider essentially offered up a Maple Leafs trade deadline primer. We discussed the Tanev injury, Brayden Schenn, Scott Laughton, and what Treliving’s looking to do. Additionally, Pagnotta gave up an update on contract talks for both John Tavares and Mitch Marner.
Thanks to Tim Hortons, we sifted through some potential RHD options reportedly available via trade. The list includes David Savard, Luke Schenn, Rasmus Ristolainen, and Seth Jones. It will be mighty fascinating to see if the Tanev injury impacts how the Leafs do business between now and March 7th.
Brian Burke will join us for even more deadline talk on the Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Talk then!
