Dmytro Timashov to join Nylander(s), Sweden for WJHC

Dmytro Timashov, taken by the Leafs in the fifth round of this past summer’s draft, has perhaps looked like their biggest find of the class. He started the season off with a strong camp with the big club in September, and since being returned to junior, he’s ripped things up for the Quebec Remparts, notching 51 points in just 28 games and tying him for top five in the league in scoring.
Now, unsurprisingly, he’ll get to join the Leafs’ ace prospect William Nylander on Team Sweden’s preliminary roster for this month’s World Junior tournament in Finland.
We’ve heard for a while that Nylander will likely join the team, but it’s nice to see it confirmed. As for Timashov, things were up in the air until now, but with the level of output he’s been able to dish out in the early part of his draft-plus-one season, it would have been criminal for him to be left off this roster.
By my count, this brings the Leafs’ prospects playing in the WJHC tally to five – Marner, Dermott, Timashov, Nylander, Kapanen. Last night we passed along news that, somewhat shockingly, Bracco will not be on the ice for the U.S.
It’s also worth noting that Alex Nylander, brother of William, and future 2016 Leafs selection, is also on this roster. The younger Nylander is currently sitting on 47 points in 31 games for the Mississauga Steelheads, so he gets in as a draft-eligible. Impressive.
Sweden will cut a couple names from this list just before the tournament gets going, but this is the group they’ll take to Helsinki. Hopefully Timashov sticks to see things through.
